| Among the familiar characters, the wide range of freedom, and interesting factors that allow you to enjoy the game from various angles, you will also find out that what you thought of as just an online game is merely just a portion of a plateful of fun MapleStory can provide.
In addition to all the factors that the existing online games have, throw in the unusual minigames, various events, and a variety of backgrounds that transcend time, and before you know it, you will find yourself glued to MapleStory. MapleStory is an online game that uses a side-scroll format, which is entirely different from the 3-D or quarter-view formats that are prevalent in most games. It allows you to jump or climb ladders, emphasizes arcade-like dynamic to the game play, and doesn't have confusing perspective transitions so it's easily approachable for anyone to play. From clothes and hair styles to earrings and shoes, most of the wearable items in the game are shown on the screen as worn by the characters. It goes beyond merely distinguishing the items from those of others with vague colors and forms, and allows you to visually enjoy the items themselves. In MapleStory, unique and bizarre items appear alongside the usual items that are available in most common games. Unexpected items appear as weapons and clothes to give you the kind of fun simply unavailable in other games. The characters featured in the game display humongous heads and feature a ton of hilarious facial expressions to draw a smile to your face. Cute, charming monsters, various events, and minigames within the game are all available for you to enjoy. The towns are featured in their own, very distinctive ways, which allows the users to fully appreciate the different dynamics each town has to offer. Small details such as the scrolling background that follows the character's movement only adds to the beauty of the game in itself. As for the attacking skills, the higher the level of skills, the flashier, the skills get, making each attack a dynamic, eye-pleasing experience.

| PLAYING THE GAME
Controlling the Character Once you start playing the game, you'll see your character as the beginner. To move your character, press one of the arrow keys on the keyboard. To jump and attack, press Alt and Ctrl on the keyboard.
Hunting After killing a monster, you'll see a message on the bottom-right corner of the screen flashing '***'s EXP went up. That's the amount of EXP gained by hunting down a monster. Once you reach a certain amount of EXP, you'll be able to level up.
(Press S to see your stats or look at the EXP meter next to MP at the bottom of the screen to see how much more EXP you need to level up.)
When you level up, you'll be awarded with 5 Ability Points. Press S, and designate your Ability Points to wherever they are needed, be it STR, DEX, INT, LUK, or MaxMP & MaxHP. Once you have leveled up, your HP and MP will be full again. If you hunt a monster, it'll usually drop off a leftover and some Mesos. They can be picked up through the button Z. \

| ABOUT SKILLS
The general summary of Skill System Excluding the beginners, the other four jobs (warriors, magicians, bowmen, and thieves) have their own, unique skills. As the character makes advancements, numerous skill slots will be available. The skills won't be available for use just by obtaining the skill book, but rather, the skills will be obtained through using SP's earned after every level up.
Types of Skill Skills are divided into two different categories, active and passive.
* Passive Skill: Works without really doing anything special * Active: Uses up MP and others to start up the skill; works for a set period of time.

| ABOUT QUESTS
Doing Quests Lots of different quests await you in MapleStory. To do a quest, you need to first look for an NPC that provides one. The requirements for a quest can vary, but usually involves level, fame, job, and/or items. Through the quest, the character can gain items, EXP and others that directly affect your character.
There are two types of quests, one-time quest and repeatable quests. A one-time quest can only be completed once, and then it's over. Repeatable quests can be done again even after completing it the first time. You can access quest names, quest in progress, ended quest, and quest info's on the See Quest Info window at menu (HotKey: Q).
